Over the many decades of American and European history, Women were treated like slaves, animals and even as sacrifices. Well, in the Victorian era it wasn't much different from it, although Women were seen as an important figure in the family, and could not be pushed down, women were still responsible to listen to men and were inferior to them. The only job for women in the Victorian era was to get married and look after the homely chores. The young ladies were groomed throughly to get married and had to be innocent, virtuous, biddable, and dutiful. The young women were mainly educated in accomplishments like French, drawing, painting, singing, dancing; everything which helped to get a perfect suitor. When a woment gets married to a rich husban, they are supposed to spend most of their time reading, sewing, receiving guests, going visiting, letter writting, seeing to the servants and dressing for the part as her husband's social representative. The life of women in Victorian era was generally centered on family commitments. They had to live by how their husbands tell them to and must sustain the reputation of their families. You could easily say that these women had no indenpendent lives. However, in the family they were honored and cherished, and women were not necessarily considered lower class. Meaning that they weren't ignored by the society as they used to in the past eras of history. Also Women were seen as temples of love and purity, and so, could not be used for physical exertion or pleasurable sex. We could easily conclude that the Victorian era for Women has been a huge step in to the world that they are living now.
